“All in” with $2,500,000,000

» by Sam in: Indian Gaming

The state of Oklahoma’s tribes brought in two-and-one-half billion dollars this last year, according to a recent study.

Since the Right to Be Stupid Act of 2002 (the lottery and indian gaming voluntary taxes), Indian Gaming has enjoyed continued growth. With an additional $2,500,000,000, we could do many things… Instead the native tribes get to spend the money on needed causes — like more casinos.

Granted, that revenue could be used to do one of many things, like funding education at the same per-pupil ratio as the regional average (according to a detractor against HOPE, the Joklahoman.) We could even ask the tribes to choke up some money for roads and bridges — instead of just new turnoffs by the new “grand” casino.

Then again, why would we want to ask the indian nations to come through and pull their weight in achieving Oklahoma’s potential?
